After 9 a.m. Bible study, our morning worship begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary.
Our 10:30 a.m. Sanctuary Service is traditional in nature. We love experiencing worship through the Celebrating Grace Hymnal and our 59-rank Schantz organ. During the service, you can find the hymns that we sing in the hymnal in the pew rack. Our minister of music will raise his hands when it is time to stand up and lower them when it is time to sit down. We strive to keep the mechanics of our service at a minimum so that you can focus your heart on the reason we’re there—to worship.
Following the musical portion of our worship time, our pastor, Dr. Frank R. Lewis, will lead us in a Biblically based sermon. Feel free to use the portion of your Order of Worship to write notes. In case you’d like to refer back to the sermon later on in the week, visit our podcasts page (link to media.sermon podcasts) to hear the sermon again.

Song of the Shadows
Sunday, April 13, 2014 | 6:30 p.m.
The Sanctuary Choir, Orchestra, Scripture Reading, Narration, & Communion
Our Holy Week observances this year include a service of worship, meditation, and reflection presented by our Sanctuary Choir with orchestra, Scripture readings, narration, and communion. The work we will be sharing is entitled Song of the Shadows. We will visit various “shadows” such as the Shadows of Contemplation, Turning, Betrayal, Sacrifice, Loneliness, Suffering, Death, and the Cross. The earthly life of Christ began in shadows as He was birthed in a lowly manger. His life continued with many encounters with shadows as He was tempted by Satan in the wilderness, chastised by the Pharisees and teachers of the law, scorned for the healing He provided, criticized for the miraculous good He willingly shared, and as He found Himself alone in those final hours leading up to His gruesome crucifixion on a Roman cross. Song of the Shadows will take us down some of these roads once again as we follow Christ to the Via Dolorosa, the Way of Suffering. We will be confronted with our own sin and the comfort that comes knowing Jesus paid the price for our sins on the cross of Calvary. We will find ourselves confronted with the ‘dark night of the soul,’ but can rejoice in the reality that wherever we find a shadow, there is also light as Jesus, our Lord and Savior, is the Light of the World.
Please utilize this unique opportunity to invite your family, friends, neighbors, and business associates to join you for worship with our First Baptist Nashville Family of Faith. Join us on this journey as we together contemplate the Songs of the Shadows and how Christ will radiantly beam His light into our souls as He meets us on our way. Those times when the shadow is most prevalent brings the reality that the Light is just that much brighter. He waits expectantly for us to simply take that first step as He bids us to ultimately walk out of the shadows and into His glorious Light.
