Frank & to the Point (June 2014)

One of my favorite things about the summer is the opportunity to focus my study time and shine the spotlight on a sermon series for the eight to ten weeks that we gather between Memorial Day and Labor Day. This summer I want to invite you to join me for an up-close and personal look at a complex man of the desert who was called by God to confront kings and comfort grieving widows. His ministry was characterized by both tender moments and powerful displays of God’s presence. He had bouts of depression and was prone to running away when the pressure was on him. His name is Elijah. His business card could have read “Prophet of God” while the search warrant issued by the king might have simply referred to him as “The Troubler of Israel.”

We will find riches in his story that will speak to every one of us this summer. You can begin reading about him in 1 and 2 Kings if you want to study ahead or simply spend some quiet moments with Elijah this summer between Sundays. Either way, I look forward to seeing you in June and July as we gather for worship at First Baptist Nashville.
